What are Dysbiosis and Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Eat for Success!

When it comes to insulin resistance, there is so much good news! We can prevent it and treat it!! Yay!!! How?

What is causing Insulin Resistance to begin? Tweet this!

Food is a big factor.

  • Dietary sugars and refined flours are the biggest triggers of inflammation and cause insulin spikes.
  • Artificial sweeteners have been linked to weight gain and diabetes.
  • The lack of fiber can lead to increased visceral fat, and an increased amount of omega 6 and a deficiency of omega 3 can contribute to system inflammation, leading to worsening insulin resistance.
  • Stress increases cortisol which increases insulin levels, which in turn worsen insulin resistance.

What are Dysbiosis and Leaky Gut Syndrome?

Dysbiosis and Leaky Gut Syndrome. The bad bacteria in a leaking gut increase inflammation; worsens insulin resistance, causing obesity and belly weight.

Deficiencies

  • Vitamin D deficiency contributes to insulin resistance due to the role it plays in glucose tolerance through its effects on insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity; the lower the vitamin D, the higher the insulin resistance.
  • Magnesium deficiency has also been linked to developing insulin resistance.

Medications

  • Medications like steroids and hydrochlorothiazide, a first-line medication for blood pressure, can actually cause hyperglycemia, leading to insulin resistance.
  • *Check with your doctor and read the side effects to know which ones can increase your blood glucose levels, and ask for an alternative if available.

With hundreds of diets out there leaving you confused, I’m going to make it simple.

  • Focusing on nutrient-dense foods, in the right proportions would keep your gut happy, your glucose regulated.
  • Balanced hormones will help lower your inflammation and optimize healing!
  • When hunger strikes, don’t focus on the foods you can’t have (because believe me, you will want them even more) and don’t listen to your pesky bad bugs as they will manipulate your mind and your cravings, as they work by changing neural signals along the vagus nerve, altering your taste receptors to make you crave foods that will help them thrive.
  • Focus on the foods you CAN have. I ask my patients (and children) to go down a checklist of foods that need to be on their plate, before they consider eating anything else. If we eat the carbohydrate first, we deprive our body the nutrient-dense foods it really needs to functional optimally.
  • Each meal should contain a balance of vegetables, fats, and protein with adequate hydration.
  • Intermittent fasting is so important to break the cycles of high insulin and allow the body to come back to its normal state.

So much hope…finally maybe we can get rid of some of the pms men have or the tantrums our kids have…lol.

Here’s to hoping!!!
